Simply good chemistry.
Since 1868.

Historic milestones

We can look back on a long and traditional history. Highlights and great challenges run through our history in an indispensable way. Historical circumstances, changing market requirements and expectations call for continuous adaptations. We are convinced that we could only go down this path because the chemistry was always right - technically and personally.

Clemens Trumpler, together with his father-in-law Chrysostomus Schmalenberger, took up the production of Degras, starting out with two assistants. Schmalenberger started with a goat leather tanning factory and Clemens saw an opportunity in the rapid development of the Worms leather industry. "fish oil and sebum and some other solid fats are warmed in small, iron cauldrons on an open fire...".

The company expanded rapidly and developed a range of water-emulsifiable fatliquors based on sulfation technology, which met the requirements of the new "revolutionary" chrome tanning, which was just beginning to play a larger role in leather production.

In 1947, the production of synthetic fatliquoring agents started, and in 1974 the portfolio was expanded to include dyes and tannins.

With the introduction of patented hydrophobic agents and a range of furniture leather and car upholstery leather fatliquoring agents based on renewable raw materials, which quickly recieved a great response from customers, they quickly established itself as a trustworthy partner in this field.

Expansion and investment characterize the following years, in which new representatives and agencies were founded again and again and new lines of business were acquired.

2019

  • Acquisition of the leather finishing chemical company of Langro-Chemie Theo Lang GmbH
Trumpler took over the activities of Langro-Chemie from January 2019 and lead Langro-Chemie as a trusted brand name by maintaining production operations in Stuttgart and its subsidiaries in India and Hong Kong. Joachim Müller-Damerau and Hein Vugs also form part of the management.

2014

  • In August, Hein Vugs joins the company as the new managing director.
He took over the responsibilities of Dr. Thomas Feigel, who retired at the end of 2014.

  • Further expansion of production capacities
The production capacity for fatliquoring agents and other liquid products is expanded again. The investment in the capacity expansion goes hand in hand with the construction of a new tank farm, a state-of-the-art new bottling plant and a corresponding warehouse expansion. The conditions are created to continue to supply the leather industry with the best quality and optimal delivery service in the future.

2010

  • Christian Roos left the management at the end of 2010 and moved to the company's advisory board.
His successor was Joachim Müller-Damerau, who is responsible for the finance, controlling, human resources and purchasing divisions.

The fundamental decision was followed by intensive research and negotiations in order to find a suitable location and to regulate the necessary bureaucratic formalities and plans for the construction of the new factory. On July 23, 2004, the foundation stone for the building was laid in a new industrial park in Weitang, about 80 km southwest of Shanghai, and in April 2005, with the start of production of TRUMPLER products in China, a new era was heralded.

2001 - 2002

  • Renewed expansion
Further storage capacities were purchased at the Worms site, and in 2002 a powder mixing plant was put into operation near the site. This improved the production opportunities for the successful beamhouse division.

  • TRUMPLER separated from the company TRUKEM, which represented the ceramic activities of Trumpler.

1999

  • Expansion of the portfolio
The investment in a complete beamhouse department was made.
Due to capacity expansions in other segments and the renewed expansion of production facilities, Trumpler now offers a complete product range for all "wet processes" from raw hide to dyed crust leather. In addition, the development of new innovative fatliquoring agents played an important role in the company's strategy.
With the introduction of patented hydrophobic agents and a range of furniture leather and car upholstery leather fatliquoring agents, based on renewable raw materials, it quickly succeeded in establishing itself as a trustworthy partner in this field.

Increasing exports

  • The management with Hans C. Trumpler and Dr. Günther Roos is inevitably and increasingly switching to export. In the 60s, exports already exceed domestic sales. The production facility in Hafenstrasse is being expanded and modernized. Over years, the investment amounts to well over a million deutschmarks.

1958

  • Technical developments
Dr. Günther Roos, son of Adam Roos, becomes a personally liable partner in the company. The production of artificial Degras needed to be replaced by new products adapted to the technical development of tanneries. A series of successful fatliquoring agents were developed that made Trumpler one of the best-known fatliquor manufacturers in the leather industry.

1953 - 1956

  • Decisive years

His death three years after Vincent's was considered a great loss to the company.

1951

  • Co-founding of TEGEWA
Participation in associations dates back to 1936. The company played a pioneering role in the Association of Turkish Red Oil Manufacturers. 1948

  • First hope
The first major deliveries abroad give Trumpler hope. Belgium makes the start, then the overall situation improves noticeably. For manufacturers of leather auxiliaries, exports become even more important. In the first period after the war, Adam Roos, authorized signatory since 1924, is the closest employee to the entrepreneur Vinzenz Trumpler. Roos steers the company through these difficult years of new beginnings.

Bomb damage in 1943, 1944 and finally in the last attacks on the railway bridge and its surroundings in 1945. The German leather industry only survives in some areas, Worms is not one of them.

1918

  • Branch in Tornesch
Worms is occupied by the French. Trumpler's painstakingly built export business is stagnating. In Hafenstraße, it is decided to set up a branch in Tornesch near Elmshorn in northern Germany. It allows direct rapid access to the North Sea ports. In Tornesch, production is limited but with a dozen employees, a foot keeps the export door open. Clemens Trumpler, Vinzenz's younger brother, takes over the management from the start in Tornesch.

Trumpler "awarded in London, Paris, Mannheim and Frankfurt a.M. for export-import" not only produces Degras, it also trades in fishoil, olein, oils and fats in large quantities.

1900

  • Enlargement of the factory
Just one decade after the start of production in Hafenstraße, permission was granted to expand the factory. The extension contains a test apparatus with pumps in which fishoil is openly heated to 75 degrees by a steam blower.
The conditions include not only compliance with regulations for the chemical industry and for wastewater, but also regulations "against nuisance to the public" and leaching to produce a "washing facility or shower for the workers".
